30 minutes by car from Granada, you can find the Masaya Volcano Natural Park. One of 78 protected areas of Nicaragua, it is considered one of the most interesting attractions in Central America. The park houses the Masaya shield volcano – the only volcano in the western hemisphere where you can drive right up to the rim. The view on top? Nothing less than amazing.

The park hosts four more craters, an underground tunnel formed by lava and indigenous caves hosting a big group of bats. Nearby is an Ecological Museum where you can read about the history of the volcanoes.
